This regional standard, developed in the Caribbean, with international conformity, specifies requirements for a safety management system of an organization whose mission is: to improve the safety, working conditions and its image by applying the system effectively, including continuous improvement thereof.

Also meeting the applicable laws and regulations and to demonstrate it is a professional, reliable and safe company.

 

The Caribbean Safety Standard relates to the safety of people, products and services. Therefore, a safety management system has to be set up.

The content of the standard is based on four main components:

  • Management and Policy

  • Employees

  • Resources

  • Community

 

Using this standard, organizations can diagnose their own organization, from policy to implementation, creating understanding of the safety conditions. The organization can take adequate preventive and corrective measures with the aim to increase the safety and welfare of employees.

The Caribbean Safety Standard concerns policy, risk assessment, safety training and information sessions, observation rounds, inspections of equipment, the provision of personal protective equipment, community involvement and more. All requirements in the standard are intended to apply to all organizations that perform high risk activities in a risky environment, regardless of the type of organization. The standards document, ND CSS2009 was drawn up by experts and approved by the board of the Caribbean Health & Safety Foundation.
